For what application?
I like to make my own seed starter mix with equal parts:
Milled Sphagnum Vermiculite Perlite

I use the same mixture as Tremor. Works great.

Vermiculite helps moderate moisture by abosorbing some and releasing it. Perlite is more for aeration of the soil. The seed starter mix Tremor and Gritch use is the same the commercial greenhouses I work with use.
