Hi..I haven't grown any giants for 3 years now and I found some seeds tucked away in a drawer. They were given to me by a giant- pumpkin grower and they are dated 2002. Would these guys germinate?? They are from 900 lb. or so pumpkins. I know I am late getting started, but my strawberry patch (used to be pumpkin patch) got run over with weeds....time for pumpkins again (: Think they are ok?
Thanks, Sue

In 36 hours you can find out if they are to old. It has more to do with how you stored them.

Ok, I shall soak, file and put between wet paper towels then. They were stored in a tiny envelope, inside of a larger envelope, in a drawer in my bedroom. Thanks

I germinated a seed from 2002 this year. It broke soil within 48 hours.

Seeds from 2002 should be fine. Maybe a little slower than newer seeds, but they should pop.

I germed the 2001 695 Handy this year. Took 3 full days in the paper towels before any roots were showing. Then put it in dirt and it came up in the pot about 4 days after that. Definitely slower than the 2007 seeds I have going but still looking terrific.

I am kind of in a dilema....have to go for surgery and probably would be better off sowing just plain old field pumpkins at this time. I am really to late to start a giant and certainly will not be able to water as much as they need. But I will hang onto those seeds. Thanks, Sue
