hey you

Greencastle, PA

I haven't gotten my squash seeds yet, I ordered them late though, how late is to late to plant to get a squash on oct.6? It doesn't have to be completely ripe, just close. Is there still some time? Thanks
Tom

I think you are on the edge of being too late....the only thing that will save you is that your climate is hot and things move faster in heat. The other thing that will save you is that a squash is green all season...you pick it on Oct 6 ripe or not full grown or not ! But they better get there soon.....G

P.S. I was growing them as bait for borers, since I don't eat squash I thought that I might have someone else to take to the wiegh-off, but now I'm obsessed with the squash too!

I currently have two 900.8Lyons94*,two 455.4Andrews00(722Holland92x502.5Ciliberto91green), and a 255Andrews99*(672Dill94*x879Rockwell98*) in my garden. The 455 is expected to produce a high percentage of squash-one of my two will be pulled out. The 255* is unproven and will likely get pulled when a backup is no longer needed. The two 900Lyon's will stay. I also have my 502.5Ciliberto91 green clone in the patch from last year. The advice is free, hope it helps.Oh...one more thing...more advice for Tom---don't ever tell a squash grower you grow squash as a trap crop.We don't like that.
ps...your not likely to get squash from the 627Neuville.Let the borers eat THAT one........................G

OK, I didn't know that you didn't like it, I guess I would feel the same way if someone grew AGs for a pumpkin smashing contest. What's wrong with the 627.5? Like I was saying, they aren't bait anymore, my hobbie has changed from giant pumpkins to colossal cucerbits. Good luck with your squash,
Tom
Also, is there a way to get them started faster besides soaking and filling?

I got the seeds today, they are soaking right now. The 411 Inzero seeds are huge!
