Here's a question about seedlings that just germinated and poked their head above ground... what tips are there to minimize damping off? Maybe I get damping off more often than most because the soil is damp. I've tried to isolate the plant until the first leaf appears. But, sometimes no matter what, damping off gets them. If the plants make it thru this stage, I'd be very happy. Please post your advise in proper handling! Thanks and best wishes!

Prevention is the best cure, but if you can't control the moisture in your soil maybe consider watering the young plants with a mild fungicide. I never had a problem with AG's but with slow growers like geraniums I use a product called " No Damp".It contains Oxine Benzoate 3.2%. I've used the same small bottle for several years now and one application is usually enough.

I had my only dampening off when my seedlings were allowed to get very cool 45-55 for a couple of days.I use a heater in my greenhouse now and havent had problems since.
