I've tried the paper towel method a few times and some of the seeds develope a green looking mold on them. All the seeds came from one grower that I have tried and only a few develope the mold on them. I am going to start my good seeds on sat. the 23 and would like to no if the mold is from high heat or to much moisture / or could it just be the seeds. also, is the mold going to be a problem if it happens to my good seeds. Thanks Jeremy

um well it could be the seed how it was dried or you just put way to much water just 2-3 drops just to get around seed damp

Mossy,
if you are doing the wet paper towel method, fold it into a small square after you wet it, then squeeze it very hard between your palms to get as much water out as possible. You know the rest.
That is my only advice to try.

Their should still be plenty of moisture in the towel until it puts a root out.
Maybe those seeds had some mold spores on them, and you created the perfect environment to grow the mold ?

I think you will be fine with your good seeds.

Thanks guys, I pressed every bit of water out that was possible this last time, I actually thought I pressed to much out because the bags didnt seem to have any moisture bulding up on them. maybe it is just the seeds

Muddy Waters

Wash your seeds in 5% bleach 95% water if black spots, alot of seeds I get have mold on them,I think people pack them to soon & dont wash in bleach or hydrogen peroxiode.

When I start seeds, I file, then soak for approx 2 hrs. in a 10% solution (3% Hydrogen Peroxide) & 90% water. Have never seen any mold on seeds after the soak!!! Peace, Wayne
