Hi, I am starting a 1332 wolf and an 870 wolf. The 870 sprouted at about 40 hours with nice straight tap root and its off heat and in a container.

The 1332 has what has been described as a club root here on BP. Sort of a deformed tap root. Is there anything to look for that will tell me to quit and start a different seed?

If the growth of your 1332 slows dramatically compared to your other then that's usually not a good sign. I have been told that they sometimes correct themselves but probably best to start a backup (if you haven't already) and just keep an eye on the growth of your 1332. Hope this helps! Good luck. Erik

Jeff, my 1332 was my last to germinate and I felt it had a club root issue. The 1332 was a great looking pumpkin with huge genetic potential so I did not give up on it. I transplanted all of my seedlings to bigger pots and the 1332 did not have the root structure of the others but it definately had straightened out if it did have club root issues. ( I didn't peek to verify it was a club root ). I now have transplanted it to the patch and all looks fine. Go with a backup but if that 1332 straightens our grow it for sure.

yesterday i pulled the 1332 out, still just a deformed stump. I peeled off the seed coat and found a spot of rot on the cotyledons. I scrapped it off and put it in a bigger peat pot with fresh medium. i checked it today and there were small root sprouts forming on the deformed stump. so we will see. I started a 1274 wolf, 550 van hook and a 1223 bailey. I am thinking if teh 1332 is weak i can still use it as a pollinator. Hopefully everything is in the groud by mid late next week. i will start hardening off as soon as teh cots are out.

well after performing surgery to debride the rot and extract the seed coat as well as changing out the medium and moistening the new material with a very diluted soultion of soluable kelp the 1332 broke spoil and is a nice shade of green. It has now been moved from the ICU to the medical floor where it is resting uder a full spectrum "sunshine" bulb
