I started 2 seeds on may 8 and both had a tap root by 2 days(I peeked) subsequently they are not breaking the soil. Both planted with top of seed about 3/4-1 in deep. The 1332 wolf is problematic as mentioned in other posts but the 870 wolf is growing but it seems to have just root development as i can see roots poking out of the bottom of the peat pot. On wed 5/11 I started 3 new seeds as backups, 1274 wolf(root as of this morning)550 vanhook(root as of this morning) and a 1232 bailey (nothing yet-very thick seed) Each pot is wrapped with plastic wrap and all but the 870 are on a germination heat mat, the medium is slightly moist using the 1 drop squeeze. I assume no fertilizer even diluted until its above soil Anything I am forgetting that can get these sped up?, or am I just impatient. Thanks

Sounds like you have everything right jeff. I'd hold on a little longer cause I know mine took about 3 to 4 days to spring their heads out of the dirt. Really just make sure the temps are right. As soon as they pop out I pulled the heat from the bottom and put em right under the grow lights and that's when they really start to jam. Sounds like your good so good luck to you!! Erik

How big is the peat pot?...If it not at least a quart size of course the roots would be out by day three..If the soil was so loose the seeds would throw roots and never push the seed up...we talk about how wet the soil is..how tight we want the soil is also impotant, In the real world the seed would have to push down onto a tough soil..and come up. If your medium is so loose. these seeds will send roots down till they get enough resistance ..ie ( bottom of the pot) before the will push the seed cover out. We baby em, we Care for em and we want best outcome..but you have to remember these are the most aggressive vines in the world...they throw more roots in the first five day then anything I've ever seen...root bound in a week in gallon jug....Can't do these in a small loose soil pot.
IMHO...soil not tight enough, Pot to small.
Great learning curvce...GrowEmBig! Chuck

Thanks erik, chuck, the pot is a jiffy-5 peat pot--pretty standard The soil was somewhat loose so that may have bene teh isse but now teh 1332, 870 and the 1274 are all above soil and under a light. jeff
