I put three seeds in seven days ago. Filed them first, than soaked in water for an hour. Used seed starter soil in four inch peat pots. placed heating pad in cooler with peat pots on top. Soil temp at seed level is 85. So far not a one has popped up. I checked two of them carefully. The seed is still together but there is a root coming out about 1/2 inch. Looking for input from those with similar experience. Are these seeds just slow or should I consider them a lost cause. I have since started three other seeds in the past few days for back up.

If the root is coming out you should be in good shape you just should have waited a bit longer. I had some take 11.5 days to come up. I have come to the conclusion that I was being over cautious with the soil moisture and let it get too dry. I started adding just a touch of water on day 2 and have had everything come up in less than 5 days since.

Captain97, how do you add moisture to the soil? Mist on top, or add H20 from below? Peace, Wayne PS..day six and no sprout!!!

I am wondering about this seed starter soil. Seems like it holds very little moisture. Been misting them, but wondering if it is too dry. All my maters, melons etc were started same day but with heat light, they have all came up.

I do it from below and let it soak up through the peat pot. I figure that way it will be wetter at the bottom where the roots are and keep the area where the seed is dryer to avoid rot. Thats just a theory though based on my own logic. I don't know if there is a real benefit to watering that way. alson it is a very small amount of water like only a few tablespoons per plant.
