Now that all mine are out. At what point are you taking your germinated seeds (in peat pots) out of the germination chamber(85-90)ish and putting them under the lights.? As soon as they start to break soil? when both cots are exposed or above soil with seed coat on? etc, etc. I know too much in there can get them leggy. Mine are in my shop (which I check in the morning) so sometimes the height that they are up can vary by the time I get there. Im just wondering if I have pulled some to early or left some too long.

You can pull them out when the soil is cracked,prior to seeing cots if your temps under lights is good like mid 70s or warmer.If its to cool they may stop growing.I dont like to see them get leggy either.

as soon as they break the soil they need light to keep from getting leggy. as soon as each seed breaks the soil, I take them out of the incubator and put them in a tray, on a heat mat, under lights.

I have a nice warm area (mid 70'sF) under grow lights, so as soon as I see a push, I pull em from germination chamber, and put em under lights!!! Peace, Wayne

I have been told no bottom heat once germed,it makes them leggy.

Pull them off the heating matt when they breach the soil.

Leave in the chamber especially if its a closed environment keeping the humidity the same.

Then I vent the chamber to slowly change the humidity. Keeps them from damping off to fast. I do one thing at a time...when they are this small.

Then two days after soil breach...they go into the BIG POTz. This year I had to leave on parts of the peat pot as the roots blasted thru them already.....Make sure peat pot is completely covered with dirt so its soft and starts decomposing....

So Wizzy you sayin put a pad under pot like a chunk of wood or something?To leave them in chamber but not sitting on floor?

Since my germ chamber has 100% humidity, as soon as the seedling has its cots above soil, I move them to the non heated germ chamber, still covered and 100% humidity. Then I vent the chamber so the seedling gets use to lower humidity slowly. Once year I did not do this and lost all me pepperZ...as the plants get use to the environment they are in...and when young....we need to make changes to them slowy.....

slowy......slowly...lol ANd it dont make any diff what I do to IcemanZ butch NotZ.... ThurZday they would of been in the chamber for two weekZ....still nothing....ICEMAN>..

As soon as they pop up I pull them out and repot them in 1 gallon pots. The roots grow quick. I then put them under a grow light until the cots have fully expanded and then start the inside at night outside during the day and they seem to acclimate well. This takes about 2 weeks. As the 3 rd leaf comes out they are in the patch. The roots grow real fast.

Boy you really baby those pups!I'm thinking putting my kins in Thursday or Friday this week.There in 5 inch pots(peat)I can take a magnify glass & see which way the true leaf is headed.There hardening off on the front porch 2 cots & a true leaf the size of a grain of rice.Is there any good reason I should not put them in the ground this early temps are up 86 degrees in Kin cave today.I have electricity to provide nite heat if needed.I would rather plant them then repot them at this point.I just hijacked this post sorry its now when to plant in patch.lol!WWWD!WHAT WOULD WIZZY DO!&any others please advise!

I just put them from 5 inch peat pots into the ground. Why bother disturbing them again by going to gallons unless houses/soil isnt ready? All had first true leaf,from quarter to silver dollar size. Roots starting to come out bottom. All seem to be doing fine, got them in Monday. We did pot up Dad's squash that wont get in the ground for a couple weeks, and put it in one of the hoop houses. Mellons are in 2 gallons also, no houses for them either.

I will be peeling peat pots off when I plant this Friday.I had a bad experience planting with peat pots on in 1998.Bill Edwards saved my season and gave me his backups.
