Whens the best time to pull shell off seed? If you leave them on cots can rot.If I pull them off ASAP they seem mighty tender & white. Is there better time then as soon as there up?

nope-gotta sack up and go for it. seed leaves will always be tender and white until they get some day or artificial light. some growers have reported less need to pull shell off because they plant the seed on its side rather than tip dowm in the pot.

I planted my seeds flat.
They came up with no shells present.

I just pulled the shell off the 1161 & 1381 & 1634.Just looking mighty naked with only a little green on edges. The lite pale color makes me concerned not a healthy look.I know they will turn green in a day or two.5 year olds not allowed over this week.lol!

Yes I did lubricate them with water prior to plucking the shells.I really was careful with the Rodonis all the others I have multiples. The lube truly helped,They green up fast, went down to the wacky tabacky store & bought them a new grow lite.A T5 54 watt 4 footer. Will let the lemon lime sister's use it next winter in the house, along with the orange tree.

I like to take them off, but they can injure the cot if they are still too tight....ThatZ one thing filing does do....allowZ the seed shell to come off eaZier....and like papZ says....you can put it in side wayZ...and the shell comeZ off below ground...then you can worry about it down there.....

I start my melons in a wet paper towel and lay them horizontal, they come right out of the seed in the towel.

I can't remember the last time I pulled a seed coat off. I plant large seeds on their sides and the seedling throws it off in a few days.
