I broke a cot off my 1813 the first day it emerged. The first true leaf and 2nd leaf are still bigger than other 2 plants of same age or close to. The one cot serves the role to harness the light energy to get things going. I've seen them still grow with both cots off, just much slower but picks up once the first leaf emerges.
