Hi,

I read somewhere, I even think on this forum, that you can put the little stems of pumpkin seedlings deeper into the soil when transplanting and they even grow roots there.

Does this also apply for gourds(Lagenaria Siceraria)?

I would advise planting on a hill or mound if trying to bury some of the stem below the cotyledons? The crown should have good drainage, so building above the soil surface allows you to mound soil around the stem while maintaining free drainage around it.

Depending on whether you are growing on a trellis or the ground, you may be able to get the stems to root at the leaf node junction by mounding soil there as well. Good luck, grow them big!

I dont think the gourda will root along that below cotyledon area as well as pumpkins. If its a gourd your growing on the ground (ex bushel) Id plant it just below the cotyledons. If it a trellis gourd id support it with a bamboo stake till its tendrils get a hold of the trellus
