Are they usually slow starters? I may have let it get too hot on the heating pad last week. not seen any real growth now for three days. Cots are fully expanded but still green and yellow on the outer edges. I wish I could figuire this out.

Once it has germinated and the cots are out there is no need for heat.

Some questions for you:
How much light is it receiving per day?
What size pot is it in?
What is the moisture level in the starting mix? too wet?
Did you apply any fert to it yet?

A seedling's fertilizer requirement is very small.

Give it some time.

It has been outside in the hoop house for almost a week now. It has received 1 weak solution of 10-52-10, kelp and twice it has been fed compost tea. Currently it is in a two gallon pot. Other plants treated the same are thriving. The only things I can think of is too much heat around germination time or I broke the roots transplanting it into the pot. Can This plant be recovered?

uhhhhhhhh, i DO believe i had HEARD or READ that the 582 that grew the 1458 was somewhat of a runty sort of plant and it was a
surprise that it grew anything let alone a world-record and beyond---hey, i don't care; that was THE HEAVIEST pumpkin in history. but anyway, not to speak out of turn or ruffle
anyone's feathers, you might want to contact someone who's grown it before, for additional insight. also, i think you might, as was hinted at above, be slightly overdoing it on the additives. less could be more.

Maybe a little transplant shock there.


Also from your diary entries it seems too cold up there for good growth. The temps have to be up in the high 70s or even 80s and you will see some good growth.

Example - Look at Beet's diary. Those are 2 week old seedlings in the ground. When it is cold the plants just sit there.

Be patient and don't give up on it yet.
There are plenty of other BIG seeds that are slow starters.
(The 723 and 1016 are two that come to mind)

Should be well above 90*f in the hoop house today I hope it starts to pop soon. Sorry for your loss Stan. Plant one of your 1,000lbers from last year. I have a fealing that anything you grow will do well.

i wonder how many growers use fans of any sort in their little hoop houses, especially ones that are growing three or less, with reference to cost and electricity.....
the heat will undoubtedly stay near the top of the hoophouse, but with a fan placed properly, some of that nice 90-plus mixed with the cooler air where the PLANT
is might be effective in bringin' them seedlings to life.
just a little fan, 40 watts or so...perhaps....

Yikes! the pic of that one does not look good.
Not too sure exactly what to say about that.

Sometimes you just end up with a bad seed.

Might have to go with a backup.....
