I have planted the three Gerry 113s after TRIMMING AWAY the 'gnarly' roots, lol. 
In anyone else's case, they would not have this obstruction to quickly and safely sticking the newly-sprouted seed into a deep hole made by perhaps a Sharpie. Just stick it in to your desired seed height and then drizzle some H2O in alongside it and yer good to grow! 
What this would ultimately accomplish would be a head start on the depth of the root a little bit less-inhibited, as my first anxiety is 'Did it sprout? Did the tap root hit the bottom, yet?' 
A little more transparency, here. Just another way. 
PS---There's no need to ever fold the ZipLoc over onto the seeds. Again, transparency.
