This picture shows a 5 gallon bucket from Wallmart. I cut the lid to fit inside the bucket, cut a plastic 4" diameter drain pipe to support the lid, drilled the drain hole 3/4" below the level of the lid for water drainage, drilled holes in the lid for the stand pipe and wicks. I also added the wicks. The wicking ropes can be any finely woven rope ( not coarse poly rope). I tried expensive rope from Lowe's and Scott's extra tough paper towels before I found Harbor Freight's green camo rope. It's only $6 per 100 ft. and it doesn't fall apart by the end of the season. My next entry will discuss fertilyzer.
