Grass Seed Mixture
Even though the same “Northeast Mix” may be purchases year to year, the seed varieties and the percentages do vary. However, while the exact same blend may not be the same as previous years this category of grass seed blend still performs well year to year.
The seeding rate is heavy with about 15lbs of grass seed added to the 1200sq.ft. planting area. Key is to get it raked in and keep it watered. Overhead irrigation is used for the grass seed as the drip tape is best for the pumpkin so essentially everything is cleared out and just a timer and an oscillating sprinkler is in the patch along with a hose. This allows dry spots to be watered since this is such an important step to good grass seed germination. Three to four times a day the irrigation system comes on at the start and over about two to three weeks this is slowly reduced to the point that the grass is able to survive on the natural rain fall.
