My wife took this image today 10/3/08 of my best onion last year variety 'Ailsae' I just wanted to show you that the big onions keep when grown well. It weighs 13 lbs - 5 ounces and is still in excellent condition. I will now strip it down a few skins and pot it up for seeding. You can see this years plants to the left of me on the bench. They were started under lights on December the 18th 2007 and are now nearing planting size. They are given 24 hours under the lights for 6 weeks after I pot them into three inch pots, they are now in 6 inch pots. I will post images of them planted soon.

Well its time to start my onion seed and to have any chance of the world record you need to be sowing the seed in November. I sowed on the 15/11 , I will post an image of them when they come through. Sow at 70f in seed trays of seed and modular compost. Had a long chat today with Ian.p UK and European pumpkin record holder, he is a clever guy and could likely grow a real big onion in 2009...later..

nce my post here yesterday I have had quite a few emails on my onion breed 'Ailsae' Here is a shot of the original bulbs from the cross I made in 1986 with The Kelsae and Ailsa Craig hence the name . You can see they were planted ready to seed in 12 inch clay pots . All the bulbs completely dominated the top shows in 1988. All my onion seed is derived from these bulbs. You can purchase seed here http://www.exhibition-seeds.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Onions_Very_Large_40.html later....

Here is a shot of a new lamp I have been given to try, its used quite a bit in Aircraft hangers as it emits near natural daylight. Its a Plasma bulb that burns at incredible temperature and its surrounded by a microwave that lights the sulphur then make the plasma glow. It rated at 730 watts. with a 6000 kelvin light that look green when emitted. Keith
